この曲の内容に関して、出産後に死亡してしまう母親を題材としたものだとハリーはインタビューで語ったとのこと。
"The song is written from a point of view as if a mother was giving birth to a child and there's a complication," he said in his new interview. "The mother is told, 'The child is fine, but you're not going to make it.' The mother has five minutes to tell the child, 'Go forth and conquer.'"
この発言をもとに曲を解釈しようとしたときに、気になる歌詞が We never learn
We’ve been here before... / We don’t talk enough We should open up... の部分なんですよね。
私の解釈としては、母親が、子供がこれから生きていく世界に対して求めること、平和な世界になっていくことへの願いなのかな、と思っています。
何年経っても歌詞に込められた意味を考えてしまう曲です。
